Compensation: $125,000-$132,000


The Executive Director of Arc Adams County is responsible for overseeing the administration, programs, and strategic plan for the agency. As the principal advisor to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director is responsible for providing leadership and strategy around the organization and direction of the operations for the organization.

 

With knowledge, passion, commitment and integrity, the Executive Director works with and on behalf of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities to improve the quality of their lives and in accordance with the agency’s mission.


Responsibilities

Board Governance

  • Provide clear communication to the Board regarding organization’s goals, challenges, financials, and personnel.
  • Advise the Board on issues affecting The Arc’s membership and communities served.
  • Facilitate the development, recruitment, and training of Board members.
  • Recommend timelines and resources needed to achieve the strategic goals.
  • Collaborate with the Board to ensure The Arc has a multi-year strategic plan, implemented in a timely manner.

Leadership & Management

  • Effectively lead staff and foster an inclusive, success-oriented, accountable environment; develop and retain high quality professionals.
  • Ensure ongoing local programmatic excellence, rigorous program evaluation, and consistent quality of finance and administration, fundraising, communications, and systems.\
  • Lead, coach, and develop the high-performance Arc leadership team.
  • Meeting weekly with Child & Family, and Adult Advocacy teams to ensure cross-collaboration and cohesive communication.
  • Lead the development and implementation of The Arc’s strategic direction; identify and communicate priorities in support of the mission and goals; manage resources and operations successfully.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with various organizations and utilize those relationships to strategically enhance The Arc of Adams County’s mission.

Financial Management

  • Develop and maintain sound financial practices and controls.
  • Work with Staff and Board in preparing a budget; ensure the organization operates within budget guidelines.
  • Maintain adequate insurance and ensure appropriate risk management practices to protect The Arc’s assets.
  • Work with The Arc’s accountant and auditor to complete an annual Audit and timely submission of IRS Form 990.
  • In conjunction with the Board, ensure that adequate funds are available to permit the organization to carry out its work.
  • Represent The Arc on the Arc Thrift Stores’ Allocations and Member Chapters Committees, which determines the distribution of funds available through the Arc Thrift Stores.
  • Oversee the preparation and submission of grant applications and reports.
  • Ensure that The Arc maintains accurate and complete records of financial contributions and other substantial support, including the acknowledgement of substantial support as appropriate.
  • Responsible for fund development and other revenues necessary to support The Arc of Adams County’s mission.
  • Approve and oversee the implementation of The Arc’s fundraising strategy, as needed.

Operations & Programs

  • Establishing employment and administrative policies and procedures for all functions and for the day-to-day operation of the nonprofit.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations; ensure that The Arc maintains official records and documents.
  • Lead and support an effective team to
  • Ensure that the recruitment, training, employment, and release of all personnel are accomplished in an efficient manner and follows the human resource policies and practices as well as Colorado State Law; and
  • Ensure all staff utilizes professional development budget to continue personal and professional success.
  • Serve as the primary liaison between The Arc of Adams County and other Arc chapters, and the state and national organizations.
  • Ensure Arc uses relevant technology and systems to effectively store information and communicate.

Public Policy & Systemic Advocacy Functions

  • Keep current on legislative issues and public policy that could impact people with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families.
  • Participate in public meetings, policy briefings, strategy meetings, education sessions, and community meetings, etc. to maintain The Arc’s presence and position as a critical advocate for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
  • Collaborate and communicate with The Arc of Colorado and other Arc chapters in the State to capitalize on the power of a united front.
  • Ensure that all chapter public policy positions and activities are consistent with The Arc of the United States’ published position statements.

Communication & Public Relations

  • Act as the conduit for information exchange between the Board and other Staff to fully inform the Board on the condition of the organization and all-important factors influencing it.
  • Oversee marketing and other communications efforts.
  • Serve as The Arc of Adams County’s primary spokesperson to the organization’s constituents, the media, and the public. Representing the programs and point of view of The Arc to the people we serve, agencies, organizations, and the public.
  • Work closely with local, state, and federal public officials, representatives of community and statewide associations and groups, and the media to increase awareness and understanding of The Arc’s programs and policies.
  • Ensure effective communication with The Arc’s constituencies: individuals and families served by The Arc, volunteers, Staff, Board, members, community groups, and the public to achieve The Arc’s Mission and Vision.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in social work, counseling, education, policy, psychology, or other areas related to the provision of administration and independent advocacy services to people with disabilities.
  • Nonprofit management experience.
  • Experience and skill in working with a Board of Directors.
  • High level strategic thinking and planning with solid organizational abilities, including planning, delegating, program development and task facilitation.
  • Demonstrated ability to oversee and collaborate with staff.
  • Strong monetary management skills, written and oral communication skills, and public speaking ability.
  • Demonstrated commitment to justice for people with disabilities, preferred. Understanding of advocacy needs for people with IDD.
